2008 San Diego County Fair
"Summer of Sports"
The
2008 San Diego County Fair will run from Saturday, June 14 through Sunday, July 6. The Fair will be closed two Mondays, June 16 and 23. Their "Summer of Sports" theme will celebrate a wide variety of sports at all levels, from youth to professional.
Battle of the Bands
FOX6 and FM94/9 will rock the San Diego County Fair at the 2008 Battle of the Bands Contest, an open rock-genre contest for all California residents. Contestants are judged on vocal and instrumental performance, stage presence, originality and fan reaction. The contest will be June 20, June 27 and July 4. The winning band will receive:
- $1,000 cash prize
- Priority in booking a performance on the Coors Light Rock On Stage on a high traffic day
- Live broadcast with 94.9FM on the Anti-League Monday Show
- A chance to appear on San Diego Living with Chrissy Russo and Joe Bauer
- A performance at the Casbah
Please note:
- The contest is open to California residents only.
- Entrants will submit a CD with photo, or a video. A Fair committee will choose those who will perform at the Fair in the preliminary round. Attendance at one preliminary round, plus the finals if chosen, is mandatory.
- A parent or guardian, 21 or older, must accompany any entrant 17 and younger at each level of competition.
- Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 23, 2008.

Superstar Contest
One of the most popular contests at the San Diego County Fair is the Fair SuperStar Contest, sponsored by FOX6, which determines the most talented amateur vocalists, ages 8 and older.
The finals of this contest are Sunday, June 22, for the youth division; Sunday, June 29, for the teen division and Sunday, July 6, for the adult division. Winners receive trophies and cash prizes of $500.00 for first place, $250.00 for second place and $175.00 for third place. To reach the finals, contestants must sing in a preliminary and semi-final round. Please see the application for those dates and times.
Please note:
- All performers must be amateurs. Performance pay can be no more than half the entrant's income.
- The contest is open to California residents.
