Whitewater attempted child abduction 'did not occur'

Whitewater police on Monday, July 24 said that a report of an attempted child abduction on Thursday, July 20 "did not occur." 

"The Whitewater Police Department wishes to inform the community that continued investigation into the reported child abduction attempt revealed that the incident did not occur. The reporting individual informed police that the account given was false. Based on this information, there is no known threat to the community, and all descriptions previously provided detailing a suspect description should be disregarded. We are continuing to work with the reporting individual to ensure any necessary services are provided," the Whitewater Police Department said on Facebook. 

Whitewater police initially said that around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, a man approached a minor female near W. Center Street and S. Cottage Street in Whitewater. The man exited his vehicle, which was described as a black four-door sedan with tinted window. Police say the man approached the minor and told her to get into the car. The man grabbed the minor's right arm, attempting to pull her towards his vehicle. Police say the minor bit the man's arm and fled the area on foot. The man got back into his vehicle and sped away, officials said.
